The D11/XLR is a cardioid dynamic microphone intended for bass instrument reproduction. As part of AKG’s “Crystal Clear Sound” (CCS) product line, the D11 was an inexpensive yet rugged microphone intended primarily for stage use.

Although described as having a cardioid polar pattern, the mic’s rear null is not as deep or well-defined as in some competing microphones — although it must be said that the D11’s better-known sibling, the D112, produces nearly the same polar pattern. The D11 has about 10dB of attenuation at 180° below 500Hz, and about 15dB from 500Hz–8kHz.
